I will begin with a basic so obvious, it's forgotten:
- Always consider the skin the nervous system. Like the brain, like all the nerves, it derives from ectoderm.
- Never take the skin’s potential for delivering essential signs for granted.
- Learn about cutaneous hyperalgesia. Learn about small area cutaneous reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), whether from direct trauma or reflexive change. In one classic case, an RSD the size of a dime totally disabled a knee, causing intense pain throughout with any attempt to bear weight. The stories are in Release From Pain.
